August/September 08 Newsletter

Welcome all new and old players to a new season. Training will continue on Sunday mornings until the season begins and Tuesday and Thursday afternoon training will commence in September, with start time 4pm and onwards. We will be back on senior nets on main oval as soon as the football club has finished with the ground.

Attached to this newsletter are the fees for the season. If you don’t have one please ask Alan, practice assistant, for one. Your assistance in a prompt payment will be appreciated. Most of the expenses in running a cricket club occur early in the year, so early payment as soon as you can is required. Part payments will be accepted.

There are a few pre-season trial games in mid September. Graham – coach will give further details at training. These games will be mainly for 1st and 2nd div players. If you are available, let Graham know. Fixtures begin on the 4th of October.

This year the sportzdat statistical program will be replaced by “my cricket”. My Cricket is basically a revamped version of the “results vault” program which has been purchased by the ACB. This is a much easier and better system. You can check it out on – www.cricket.com.au/mycricket

For those who may be unaware, the Sports Club is our main sponsor, and we would like to see a major increase in patronage of our cricketers, to support the club that supports you. Every Thursday night is our raffle night, so come along after training and buy a ticket and have a drink with your mates. If we can get the support of players on Saturday nights, we may re-introduce the player of the match awards and group talk on matches. Don’t forget the club has a great bistro, so bring the family along and enjoy a great dinner as well.

Also, to try and encourage more player support we have devised a system this year where you will be rewarded with points for runs scored, wickets and catches taken, attendance at training, attendance at the after match frivolities, attendance at club meetings, helping with the raffle, etc, etc. At the end of the season, there will be an auction of prizes, with the highest points holders able to buy the best prizes. We already have, and been promised very substantial prizes, so the more you are involved the better prize you may obtain. This will be a fun night, probably around the end of fixtures. Watch this space – more information to come.

Premiership caps are now ready for 5th div and over 40s teams. Maroon playing caps are available at $15 each. Maroon Baggys are $35 each. Playing shirts are currently being made.
Walk out shirts are being made as well and they cost $30.

Cricket Gold Coast will produce a handbook for all cricketers this season, so you will have no excuse for not knowing the local rules, and it will contain lots of valuable information as well.
A 20/20 competition will run on Sundays. There will be a 1st & 2nd div competition and a lower grade competition as well. It is anticipated that there will be a Friday night match and a Sunday morning game and a Sunday afternoon game. So if you have any mates or friends who can’t play cricket on Saturdays because of work etc, then this may suit them. More information will be available soon.

Of course, for the older and more mature gentleman, we have the over 40’s competition which is played on turf every 2nd Sunday on a home and away basis. This side has won the premiership for the last 3 seasons in a row. (just had to say it)

If you think you have the right stuff to be Captain of one of our teams, then let us know about it.It’s not just about the on field stuff, but there is a fair bit of off field stuff you need to be able to do as well. eg. Enter match stats onto online stats program, attend selection and club meetings etc. If you are interested let Graham Whyte (Club Coach) know at training or on the contact number below.

December 05 Newsletter

Merry Christmas to everybody. At the present time we are leading the club championship by over 100 points, with all teams placed in the top four or thereabouts. We have placed an order for more playing shirts, which will arrive soon. If you have paid your rego in full and don’t have a shirt yet, see Cliff Giles. Around 70 to 80% of players have paid. We have an overflow of players at the moment and those that are still unfinancial will not be chosen to play ahead of any financial players. Please pay ASAP, to your captain or Mick Keogh.

Captains are reminded to return used cricket balls to training, don’t leave them lying in the bottom of the kit. Numbers at training have been fairly ordinary of late. Whilst we understand it is the festive season, we keep seeing the usual guys there. More commitment please guys. You may even improve your game. Thursday nights are our raffle nights so after training come over and have a drink or two and support the club and also buy a ticket or two. Also numbers coming back on Saturday nights for team presentations and drinks needs improving. Come and have a drink with your mates and support the club.

CHRISTMAS PARTY. The annual Christmas party will be held straight after games on the 17th December at the Sports Club. Santa will arrive at around 7.15 pm. There will be a jumping castle for the kids from 6pm to 9pm. Parents are asked to bring a small wrapped gift/present for your kids with their name clearly marked on it and place under the Christmas tree for santa to give out. We will have finger food available, but bistro is there for those requiring meals. Cost of night will be $5 per head and kids free.

Some dates to remember – Australia Day 26th Jan.2006. Annual six a side day. Watch this space for some exciting news about the Aust. Day 6 a Side Carnival.

Presentation Night – 8th April 2006.

Semi Finals & Grand Finals are played throughout March on Saturday and Sundays for 1st, 2nd and 3rd grades. 4th and 5th grades are Saturday one dayers. If you work on Sundays then start making arrangements now to have the time off. It is highly likely that most of our teams will be involved. Next club meeting – Monday 12th December 2005
