(To remind the recipient of the great big balls up that they have made) Runner Up – John Dodd. Dave Denniston’s sister flew over from England to watch the Grand Final and Doddy did not bowl him in the final.

Winner – Jack Boote – Reversing into the Wheely Bin holder in the car park. Breaking Cozy’s ribs and keeping him out of the last fixture and semi final.

Firsts

PBC 9/261 v Broadbeach Robina - Stumps day 1

We were looking a bit fragile at 3/42 when, once again, our middle order kicked in and the next 5 wickets added over 200 runs. The driving forces for the resurgence were Steve Mitchell (96), Glen Czosnek (51), and Steve Tolputt (32).

PBC 9/261 v Broadbeach Robina 146 - Final

We saved the best till last, finally won a GF! Michael Durbridge saved his season best bowling  performance for the big match and took 6/27 from 20 overs. He was well supported by everyone in the field but especially from behind the stumps where our keeper Brenton Hogan continued his great form taking 5 catches.

Congratulations boys!

Fourths

PBC 9/161 v Mudgeeraba Nerang Red 1 2/162 Final

A total of 161 would have been enough to win most matches this season, unfortunately it was nowhere near enough to win the one match that counted. Solid batting through the order left us with some confidence but when it came our turn to field our bowlers could not find a way to take wickets.

March 18 & 19 2006

Click on a team hyperlink to open the scorecard

Firsts

PBC 9/228 v Surfers Paradise - Stumps day 1

Another poor start almost led to our undoing. Only the 30 from Brenton Hogan enabled us to get to 5/80 before the lower order rallied around Steve Mitchell (57) and Michael Durbridge (33) to take us to a defendable total. Now it is up to the bowlers on Sunday!

PBC 9/228 v Surfers Paradise 121 - Final

A great effort by all bowlers and a huge effort by Brenton Hogan behind the stumps (6 catches) kept Surfers Paradise to a very humble score and launched us into the Grand Final next weekend!

Thirds

Tamborine Bushrats 126 v PBC 114 Final

An outstanding fielding effort last week should have been followed up by an equally outstanding batting effort. Unfortunately that little dream turned into a nightmare where only 4 batsmen managed double figures (Aaron Daniels - 20, Chris Wallace -18, Rod Vaughn 12, Darren Smith 18). We fell short by just 13 runs but it was enough to see the close of what had been a very promising season.

Fourths

PBC 3/220 v Southport Labrador Black 47 (yes 47) Final

An unfortunate start for captain Matt Keough (0) was not enough to halt our progress into the Grand Final. A magnificent 79 by Dave Young and 75* to Alex Shaw with a solid 35* to Glen Schreiber ensured we posted what should have been a match winning score. A brilliant 5/5 to Nathan O'Brien  and great bowling from Schreiber (3/17) and Anderson (2/4) made the win not just certain, but a rout. The only thing left now is to hold this form for next week when it counts!

March 11 & 12 2006

Click on a team hyperlink to open the scorecard

Firsts

PBC 165 v Loganholme 1/3 Stumps day 1

After a very shaky start (3/20) Ryan Armstrong (36) Steve Mitchell (59) and Michael Durbridge (29) steadied the ship to take us to a defendable first innings score. Troy Newton chipped in with 1 wicket in the last 5 overs, leaving us with 9 more to get on Sunday!

PBC 165 v Loganholme 114 final result.

These boys really want to get into the final! In a day of dramatic bowling and fielding Steve Mitchell took 4 catches and 3/30, Troy Newton took 3/27 and Glen Czosnek took 4/15 to keep the road to the premiership clear.

Seconds

Loganholme  138 v PBC 3/74 Stumps day 1

While no one starred, a great all-round fielding effort kept the opposition to just 138. In reply, we were cruising until the score hit 74 and then we lost three wickets without adding to the total. We go into day two precariously placed at 3/74

Loganholme  138 & 58 v PBC 123 & 65 Final

Day two began disastrously losing four wickets for just 10 runs. Stephen Brett (24) and Gareth Morgan (17) added some respectability but not enough. with four hours to play we decided to try for an outright. Brilliant sustained bowling by Nick Syrett (5/31) and Jack Boote (4/20) saw all 10 opposition wickets fall for just 58 runs. Needing only 74 to win we were looking good at 0/ 31, OK at 1/32, shaky at 2/32 in trouble at 3/32, in deep trouble at 4/32, and when the captain fell at 39 the panic set in. The last four batsmen managed to add 19 runs, leaving us just a sad 9 runs short of an unlikely victory.

Thirds

Tamborine Bushrats 126 v PBC 2/27 Stumps day 1

Paul Keough (4/35) and Shane Clark (3/25) played the major role in keeping Tamborine to a very modest first innings. Losing our 2 openers in the last few overs was a worry but there is good batting depth to complete the chase next Saturday.

Fourths

PBC 148 v Mudgeeraba Nerang White 124

Only 4 batsmen made it into double figures (Glen Schreiber (30), Paul Bernard (19) Mark Ihlein (22) and Sam Coulston (20) but that was enough to set a match winning target, especially when Rob Anderson worked his magic with the ball to take 4/28 and break the back of the Bushmen's innings. On to the Preliminary final!

Fifths

Gold

PBC 9/180 v Runaway Bay Cocos 6/183

Morale was high after setting a very defendable score (thanks largely to Rob Hulls' 73 and Mick Howarth's 35). Unfortunately our bowling was not able to complete the task and we allowed the match, and any further role in the finals, to slip away from us.

Maroon

PBC 136 v Surfers Paradise 6/140

Oh the pain! After a sensational season and winning the minor premiership we went down with 1 over to go. Jayden Hoare (52) and Sean Powyer (35) made an excellent effort, but the fact that they were the only ones to make double figures severely hurt our chances of making a winning score.  Tight bowling by all bowlers and intense fielding almost won the match for us but it slipped away at the very end. This has been a learning experience for next year's finals!

Blue

Runaway Bay Loxtons 6/171 v PBC 118

We have had a rollercoaster season and unfortunately this was one of the valley days. Chris Ballantyne laid a great foundation with 46 from #1, but like other  teams, having only 4 scores over 8 really hurt us. Haydn Riley battled nobely with ball taking 3/32 but it was never enough and our season ended on a low but with the potential for much greater heights next year!

A clean sweep this weekend!

Click on a team hyperlink to open the scorecard

Firsts

Queens 84 v PBC 7/85

No play possible  on day two so that 1 run lead from last week was very handy!

Seconds

Queens 9/119 v PBC 8/137

A fine 52 to Steve Brett on a day when runs were hard to come by (next highest score was 17) made a first innings win possible.

Thirds

PBC 113 & 97 v Tamborine 58 & 78

7 wickets on the day and 8 for the match by Shane Clark (8/22) & Rick Nolan's 5/27 ensured another outright win.

Fourths

PBC 3/264 v CHI 161

David Young was on fire, scoring the club's highest personal score of the season (145). He wouldn't have been very tired though because he only ran 19! 60 came in fours and 66 in sixes. Wayne Singleton got caught up in the mood smacking a nice 76*. CHI never recovered and folded for 161.

Fifths

Gold

PBC 9/144 v Runaway Bay Loxtons 2 120

When things get serious, so do these blokes. With 51 to Richard Hulls and 34 to Bill Freeman we built a score that we could defend. Ritchie Elliot played his part with the ball (4/14 and 2 catches) to ensure the Bay boys would fall short.

Maroon

PBC 7/157 v Surfers Paradise 100

The junior showed the way! 16 year old Sean Powyer has played a big role  al season but he really turned it on when it counted making 66 of the 100 scored while he was at the wicket and picking up 2 wickets to add to Craig Prammer's incredible haul (4/8 off 6 overs) to set us up for a confidence restoring win.

Blue

Southport Labrador 86 v PBC 6/88

The slow grass of Mallawa 2 acted like an extra team of fielders to make runs very hard to find. Chris Ballantyne was the only player from either team to crack 20 (37 with 7 fours) and that was enough to seal our victory.

on a day when Salk was obviously hard to play our bowlers shared the wickets and Brenton Hogan was un-passable behind the stumps (4 catches). In reply we also struggled with the conditions but have three wickets in hand to attempt to build a big lead next week

Seconds

Queens 9/119 v PBC 1/11 Day One

It was the Morgan & Kelaher show with Gareth taking 5/35 (including 2 c&b's) and Mark  2/19, 2 catches and a run out.

Thirds

PBC 113 v Tamborine 7/33

After a very shaky start  Rick Nolan (30)continued his fine batting form, hit 3 sixes off 3 balls, and combined with Tom Wilson (26) to post a defendable score. Shane Clark blitzed the opposition for the umpteenth time this season, taking the first 6 wickets for just 9 runs in 13 overs.

Fourths

PBC 4/207 v Tamborine 9/121

Twin 50's to Alex Shaw (55) and Glen Schreiber (56) combined with 47 from Nathan O'Brien were the backbone of an excellent innings. Probably all full of enthusiasm from his 50 Glen Schreiber came out to bwl firing, taking 4/26.

Fifths

Gold

Runaway Bay Cocos 1 8/260 v PBC 5/182

In a cricketing lesson the young boys from the bay taught our old blokes the importance of holding catches. Some unfortunate drops allowed them to post a score beyond our capacity on the day, in spite of good scores to Elliot (40), Hulls (39) and Mackerras (35*)

Maroon

PBC 147 v Southport Labrador 3/155

Let's hope this match was the blip on the road to the finals. Better to have that out of the way before the business end of the season.

Blue

Runaway Bay Loxtons 2 6/162 v PBC 142

In spite of  4 wickets to Mick Hawkins, 53 to Greg Hudson, 40 to Scott Lehn we were not  good enough on the day.

Firsts

PBC 178 & 3/41 v Broadbeach Robina 101

Great bowling by M Durbridge (4/27) and work behind the stumps by Brenton Hogan (4 catches) saw us take a convincing 1st innings win.

Seconds

Surfers Paradise 123 & 3/44 v PBC 224

Consistent batting throughout the order (over 15, below 35) built our imposing first innings score and set up the first innings win.

Thirds

Mudgeeraba Nerang Blue 107 & 8/115 v PBC 209

Angus Munro (29) and Rick Nolan (42) combined to push the score into the 200's, which was just as well considering the last 5 batsmen contributed only 5 runs. Despite the efforts of Darren Smith (4/15) we could not dislodge all of their batsmen in time just missed out on the outright.

Fourths

PBC 8/185 v Tamborine 8/156

Good starts by the top 6 were enough to post a score beyond Tamborine's talent. The combined efforts of keeper Sam Coulston (4 catches) and Nathan O'Brien (4/24) were enough to reinforce the differential.

Fifths

Gold

Tamborine 97 v PBC 4/100

John Dodd (4/17) was the main destroyer in the rout of Tamborine. In reply an opening stand of 52 between Bill Freeman (30) and Richard Hulls (30) was enough to set us on course for an easy first innings win.

Maroon

PBC 8/256 Coomera v Hope Island Blue 158

Jason Hoare (74) and Sean Powyer (94) were the backbone of what proved to be a match winning score. In reply all bowlers and fielders combined to see CHI all out in just 27 overs.

Blue

PBC 5/223 v Broadbeach Robina 160

Great form continues, especially for Haydn Riley with his first century of the season and S Lehn with  his first 50.

Firsts

PBC 178 v Broadbeach Robina 1/13 DAY ONE

Despite only 2 batsmen getting beyond 25 (Gareth Richardson 44 & Jay Thomson 28) we managed to post a total we should be able to defend next week.

Seconds

Surfers Paradise 123 v PBC 2/56 DAY ONE

A blitzing 7/19 from captain Nick Syrett has placed us well for at least a first innings win, despite the loss of 2 wickets in the 15 overs we had to bat.

Thirds

Mudgeeraba Nerang Blue 107 v PBC 4/120 DAY ONE

Inspired bowling by Scott Clarke (4/30) was helped by great catching (A Munro 3, A Daniels 2, G Lowe 2) to see MN out cheaply. Their total was passed in just 32 overs (thanks largely to Jamie Munro, 41, and Rob Suter, 28). We now have all day push for another outright.

Fourths

Surfers Paradise 111 v PBC 111

Inconsistent batting and reasonable bowling by both teams played a large part in the season's first tie. This match is also a lesson in scoring carefully because the only place the match was tied was in the summary score. Totaling batting and bowling figures for both teams gave entirely different results. Who knows, with more careful scoring we could easily have received all the points.

Fifths

Gold

PBC 184 v Surfers Paradise 7/188

Despite some late order power hitting by Richard Hulls (44) we were not able to post a score big enough to challenge Surfers.

Maroon

Tamborine Bushrats 116 v PBC 4/117

Sean Powyer with 46* & 3/10 set the platform in both innings for a comfortable win. He was helped along the way by Jayden Hoare (26) and Aaron Smith (34)

Blue

PBC 75 v Surfers Paradise 2 37

The Blues have come good at the end of the season though they must have been feeling a bit shakey at the end of their innings and having to defend just 75 (it could have been much worse without Chris Ballantyne's 23 and Gary Hudson's 19). Gary Newton (4/12) bent his old back and supported by great fielding and 2 wickets each to Shaun Wright and Haydn Riley) managed to see Surfers Paradise 2 out for just 37

Firsts

PBC 8/196 v Terranora 123

Thanks largely to a fine 83 by Ryan Armstrong and a 29* by Glen Czosnek we were able post a score that was far beyond Terranora's capacity against our bowlers.

Seconds

South Tweed Colts 109 v PBC 2/110

A fine 4/21 by Jack Boote and 3/32 by Peter Davies helped keep South Tweed to the modest total of 109. A powerful opening stand of 88 between Travis Hogan (46) and Brendan Ridges (36) enabled us to pass thier score in only 29 overs

Thirds

Mudgeeraba Nerang Red 180 & 38 v PBC 245

A lower order rescue by Rick Nolan (47) and Shane Clark (40) helped us post a respectable first innings score. Then came the demolition! Who knows what was in the drinks at the end of our batting but it worked. Shane Clark added another 6 wickets to his 7 in the first innings (and 40 runs, it was definitely his match) and Peter McCosker cleaned up 3 to see Mudgeeraba humbled for 38 and an outright win to us.

Fourths

Southport Labrador Workers 118 v PBC 1/120

What happens to retired wicket keepers? They become bowlers! Alex Shaw is showing that when he doesn't have to bend his knees all day he has other cricket skills, taking 4/13. Together with Robert Anderson (3/32) he tore the heart out of Southport. Then in a display of batting class Matt Keough (41*) and David Young (49*) saw us cruise over the line.

Fifths

Gold

Maroon

PBC 9/156 v Surfers Paradise 2 6/158

With the first 6 batsmen only making 21 runs we were in trouble. A fine rescue effort by the bottom 5 (notably 40 from Andrew Baz and 33 from Craig Prammer) pushed the total on to a respectable 156. Unfortunately the hard work with the bat done by our lower order took the sting out of their bowling and we could only manage to snare 6 of Surfers' wickets before they past our total.

Blue

PBC 69 v Surfers Paradise 5/73

In a match in which no-one could score runs we let ourselves down by losing wickets and surviving for only 17 overs.

Seconds

Mudgeeraba Nerang 10/89 v PBC 2/52

Tight, aggressive by our bowlers saw us take the honours on the first day trailing by 37 with 8 wickets in hand.

Thirds

PBC 9/319 v Broadbeach Robina 2/12

A pair of sparkling centuries (Beau Ridges 102 & Rick Nolan 109) placed us brilliantly, declaring at 9/319. In the last 10 overs of play 2 Broadbeach wickets fell leaving us set to chase an outright next week.

Fourths

Helensvale 10/61 v BC 2/54

It took just 27 overs for us to bowl out Helensvale (Ben McCombie did most of the damage with a great spell of 4/22) and then pass their total losing only 2 wickets.

Fifths

Gold

PBC 7/143 v CHI White 10/94

A 49 run was set up by good performances across the board. There were no stars in this match but a great team effort gave us the result.

Maroon

This match saw lots of star performances from Adrian Richards 51 and Aaron Smith's 44 to Isaac Holahan's 4/20 and Mathew Knight-Smith's 3 catches.  The combined effect was a 13 run win in the last over.

Blue

PBC 9/49 v Mudgeeraba Nerang Red 2/51

When only two players pass 10, and the top score is 15 you know you are going to be in trouble, and we were. Our total was passed quickly and the only good news was that it was a very early knock off time!

Both day's play abandoned - washed out

Seconds

On the second day of play a bowler again did the damage, this time Gareth Morgan excelled taking 5/54 to help see Tamborine off for 165, leaving us 124 to chase for an outright. 58 by opener Mark Kelaher and a fine 44 not out from Lincoln Hughes saw us easily and 3 dismissals behind the stumps by Todd Rush saw us easily win.

Thirds

Day two was a bowlers day out, well two bowlers! 7 wickets for the day to Darren Smith (3/28 & 4/53) building on his 2 last week gave him match figures of 9/81. Scott Clark took 5/31 and 3/41. The end result: an outright over Helensvale.

Fourths

Chasing their 8/180 another good innings by Rod Vaughn (38) combined with 41 to Glen Schreiber in the middle order was enough to guide us to a winning score over Mudgeeraba Nerang Blue.

Fifths

Gold's game against CHI Blue was washed out.

As usual, Gaven State School wicket provided a run feast (great for averages!) with Mudgeeraba Nerang Red making 8/235. In reply a great 76 by Craig Prammer and a late order revival by Aaron Smith (28) and Sam Dwyer (33*) saw Maroon's take the points in the 32nd over.

CHI White set a target too far (4/256) at Mallawa one. A regular fall of wickets saw Blue's manage only 192 in reply, despite a valiant captain's knock of 42 by Scott Lehn at the death.

Note:

All teams are in the top 4, let's keep it that way!

Firsts

First day's play abandoned - washed out

Seconds

Todd Davis (6/33) demolished Tamborine's batting, doing a lot of the work himself taking two caught & bowleds. After a shakey start in reply (4-16) Lincoln Hughes steadied the innings with a fine 50 to put us 41 runs in front at the end of  play on day one.

Thirds

Two great opening partnerships (Ridges/Suter 52 and Ridges/Daniels (109) laid the platform for a fantastic 6/307. Brendan Ridges went on to make 77 and  Scott Clarke 85. A declaration gave us 22 overs at Helensvale and we have them very vulnerable at 3/43 for the start of play next week.

Fourths

Rod Vaughn paved the way to a good first innings with a fine 54 which was built on by David Young (41) and Robert Anderson (39) to take us to 214. In reply Mudgeeraba Nerang Blue could manage only 116m thanks largely to 4/23 from Natahan O'Brien

Fifths

Gold won in grand style chasing down 30 runs in the last 3 overs with 3 towering sixes from that old stager Mark Richardson. Brent Lillie's 4/33 and 3 catches to Shaun Stamm were  critical in keeping Broadbeach Robina to a score we could chase.

It was all class at Mallawa as the  Maroons demolished  Coomera Hope Island white. Troy Sanders led from the front making 119 and combining with Adrian Richards (51) for a first wicket partnership of 187 (final score 3/230).  Sam Dwyer then picked up with the ball and took 4/9 in just 2 overs to helpo bundle them out for just 95

The Blue's march on taking just 25 overs and losing only 6 wickets in chasing down the target of 142 set by CHI blue. Haydn Riley starred with the bat again, finishing up 69no.

Seconds

Thirds

There was not even time to build a sweat. In just 20 overs Southport Labrador were all out in their second innings for just 44, still 26 runs shy of our first innings. A handy outright win!

Fourths

On a day out for batsmen we prevailed over Mudgeeraba Nerang making 7/241. In reply the opposition could make only 220. It was almost the Tom Dubelaar show (112 runs, 3 wickets and 1 catch)

Fifths

The Old Golds taught the Tamborine Bushrats a thing or two making 207 in 14 overs ( and losing 10 wickets in the process). Old legs then made themselves known and so the pace slowed but in the next 34 overs Tamborine were  bundled out for just 117 (with a lot of help from John Dodd with 5/28)

It was not the Maroon's day going down by 135 runs to Coomera Hope Island Blue.

On the other hand, the Blue's resurgence continues. Broadbeach Robina were knocked over for 170 (special mention to Hayden Riley for his 4/31) and then Rob Suter - 85* & Chris Ballantyne 76* gave a batting lesson taking the PBC score to 177 without loss.

Starting at 5/74 we added just 14 runs for the last 5 wickets, just enough to lead Mudgeeraba by 6. After knocking them over for 133 (Newton 4/28) we managed to snatch the outright on the last ball of the day, finishing at 7/129

2nd Grade
In their second dig Broadbeach could only manage 99, leaving us just 54 to get for the outright, which we achieved for the loss of just 3 wickets

 3rd Grade
Starting at 4/63 consistent batting saw us overhaul CHI's 160 by just 8 runs. A tight win but a win all the same!

4th Grade
An overwhelming 103* by opening bat Steven Mitchell was the foundation of the 4/171 we scored  for a convincing win over Broadbeach (10/167)

5th Grade
The old Gold's role on. Bill Freeman has put hockey out of his mind at last and put together 56 that put us on track. Consistent scores in the 20's & 30's by the next 5 bats helped put together a wonderful score of 7/269. In their chase Surfers managed only 155, restricted by the 4/52 gathered by mark RIchardson.

Maroons bowled their way to a winning position to have Tamborine all out for 122. Led then by a solid 50 to opener Troy Sanders the boys lost only two wickets in the chase passing the total in just 19 overs.

It's beginning to look like a bowlers' season: inspired work by our boys saw Mudgeeraba all out for just 82. In reply we are 5 down for 74.

2nd Grade
Bowlers had even more fun at Salk to see Broadbeach all out for 77, in reply we managed 122 so the scene is set for an outright to us next week.

 3rd Grade
Five wickets to Shayne Clark helped keep CHI to just 160. We are reasonably placed for next week and will start the day at 4/63.

4th Grade
In a tight finish PBC overcame Mt Tamborine by 2 runs at mallawa 3. The story might have been different were it not for a powerful  53 from D. Young.

5th Grade
Gold's Grand final replay almost had a happy ending but unfortunately Southport got up by 3 runs to win. Perhaps if Shaun Stamm had hung on for his 50 (sadly out for 49) it would have been different.

The Maroons began their game against Surfers only to realise the opposition were a bit light in the field, so light in fact they forfeited..

The Blues got a win! It was only by 2 runs but Surfers goes without the points this weekend.

Oct 22 2005

1st Grade
The covers on Salk this week were a great idea. The sprinklers under them were not! We produced our own 1940's style sticky wicket - and our batsmen suffered. Despite a brave fight we could manage only 108 - in 2 innings! Pottsville couldn't achieve the outright but had an easy 1st innings win. The only highlights were the triple wicket maiden by Peter Bruhn and 3 dismissals behind the stumps by Brenton Hogan.

2nd Grade
Chasing down the 118 of Queen's first innngs was slow going but steady and solid batting right through the order saw us take the first innings points. The highlight: no ducks!

3rd Grade
The batting wobbles continued from last week when in our second dig we could manage only 92 (could have been worse: the total includes 14 sundries). An outright  loss to Runaway Bay should spur the boys to better efforts next round.

4th Grade
First century of the season goes to ... Steven Mitchell (105). Aggressive batting was the order of the day with 15 sixes being struck (9 off Steve's bat). Matt Taylor's 63 helped lift the team to a total of 280. Tight all round bowling by our boys kept Surfers to 90. A very good win!

5th Grade
Team Gold has finally got it's bearings. The third close game in a row finally went our way. No standout performances, 3 scores over 20 (Freeman, Munro & Tripp) and two 3 wicket hauls (Keerie & Dodd) saw Runaway Bay beaten.

The Maroons have continued their winning ways to give Surfers a good thrashing. Scoring 7/163 with an outstanding 61 from Jaden Hoare, the bowlers then combined for a sustained effort that saw Surfers all out for just 106.

The Blues blues continue. They went down to Soutport (5/106 to 3/158). A few 20's and nothing higher than 24 (Hudson) meant we were never in the chase.

Oct 15 2005

1st Grade
Is Salk oval playing tricks? After bowling out  Pottsville for just 113 our boys are just 2/16 off 8 overs. Troy Newton and Peter Bruhn both starred with the ball each taking 4 wickets.

2nd Grade
Tight bowling and regular wickets restricted Queens to just 118 off 67 overs G Morgan picked up his first 5fer for the season. In reply we were 0/10 at stumps.

3rd Grade
Did we use up a season's worth of runs last round? From making around 400 in round one we could only manage 58 in reply to Runaway Bay's 133. Our cause was not helped by the 4 ducks in a row through the middle order. Darren Smith excelled with the ball in his first run back in 3rds taking 5/32.

4th Grade
A great 53 by Alex Shaw (the second in a row) was the centrepiece of another solid team effort that saw us put on 8/178 and bowl Southport out for 130 .

5th Grade
The close ones will have to start falling Gold's way soon, but they haven't yet. Chasing Runaway Bay Cocos' 133 we fell short by just 9 runs with 15 balls to go.

A target of 228 posted by Runaway Bay Loxton turned out to be an impossible dream for our Blues who could manage only 87. Looks like both batting and bowling practice is  on the books for this week.

Our only winning 5th graders this week were the boys from Maroon who convincingly beat Southport. 44 from Dave Young was teh foundation around which we built 205 then 4/34 from A Smith and 3-29 from C Prammer demolished Southport's hoes and kept them to just 162.

Oct 8 2005

1st Grade
Murwillumbah bowlers were fodder for our bats last week. This week it was the batters turn: We took 20 wickets for 147 runs in 53 overs to start the season with a convincing outright victory. Jay Simmonds picked up first 5'fer (5/15 off 8)

2nd Grade
It was another day of falling wickets at Salk, only this time it was too many of ours and not enough of theirs! In our second dig we could only manage 116 (Nathan Roberts top scored with 35 and Todd Davis ran out of partners on 28). Despite our concerted bowling and fielding effort Surfers reached the target of 103 for the loss of just 6 wickets to deliver an outright to them.

3rd Grade
Queens' 296 looked big but Dux oval is small and fast and our boys know how to hit the ball. Hit it they did amassing 403 runs in 70 overs. Graeme Mognon picked up 56, Angus Munro 59, and Beau Clarke 80. Paul Keough had two disappointments: he missed his 100 by just 5 runs and had his car windscreen smashed by a towering 6 - that he hit himself!

4th Grade
Led by Steven Mitchell (46) and Alex Shaw (56) fourths held on for a narrow 23 run win over Mudgeeraba Nerang.

5th Grade
PBC Gold put up a good fight to make 8/174 but went down by 1 wicket to Runaway Bay (9/178)

The blues bustled out CHI for 78 - thanks mostly to a brilliant 6/23 off 6 by Hayden Riley then knocked off the target in 19 overs to win by 4 wickets.

Despite forfeiting last week Tamborine turned up to test our Maroons, and test them they did making 260 in their 35 overs. They ultimately failed the test with the PBC boys passing the target in just 30 overs with 4 wickets in hand. Special mention to D Cartan (58) and Mark Mackerras (63)  and Mathew Knightsmith (43no)

Oct 1 2005

1st Grade
It was day for batting practice with a good track and great weather and our boys took advantage of it. Brenton Hogan (68) and Glen Czosnek (54) and Ryan Armstrong (64) took us to 5/235.
While most of the other batsmen got starts none went on and we finished the day at 8/235.

2nd Grade
Our centre wicket at Salk oval looks better than it ever has, just don't tell any batsmen!  19 wickets fell for just 220 runs, there were 5 ducks and only 3 scores over 20 .Terrell Hyman (28) top scored in  PBC's total of 102. A great season opening bowling spell by Nick Syrett (5/32) and a quick 3/8 by the late arriving Darren Smith to see Surfers all out for 118 at stumps sets the scene for a battle for an outright next week.

3rd Grade
Queens has set a formidable runs target for next week amassing 296 from the 65 overs we sent down. S. Clarke picked up the two key wickets in his excellent 4/61

Steven Mitchell (73) was the standout in our reasonable total of 7/173 but unfortunately our bowling was not up to our batting on the day and Queens passed out total with an over to spare.

5th Grade
Palm Beach Currumbin Gold had an easy entry to the season with a forfeit by Tamborine

In the local derby A spanking 88 by Matt Taylor helped by an equally explosive 52 by Richard Zikmuwdovsky for  Maroon set a big target of 235 for Blue to chase. Without the efforts of Mal Keerie with the ball (4/33) it would have been much worse. In their innings a 50 partnership by Mick Keogh (31) and Chris Ballantyne (19) was not enough to launch an attack and the boys could manage only a total of 145.

March 19&20: 2 Premierships & a Second

Firsts turned in their worst batting performance of the season on the day it really counted. Inspired bowling by Troy Newton (5/26), helped by Jason Lavender behind the stumps (4 catches), kept Surfers Paradise to only 130, an eminently gettable target. Unfortunately apart from a bit of stubborn resistance from Mick Foxwell (21) the team folded under the pressure of J. Anning's strike bowling (7/29) to be all out for 70.

The story in reverse was true for Thirds. Batting first they were kept to a lowly 166. It would have been worse except for a middle order steadier led by Alex Shaw (30) helped by 15 year old Matt Freeman (26). When it was our turn to field Peter Davies and Tom Wilson were not going to be denied a premiership. They bent their backs bowling the best stints of the year, each finishing with 4 wickets (Wilson 4/29 and Davies 4/27) to lead the demolition of Tamborine Mountain for only 71 runs. The effort is even sweeter when you consider that TM was the dominant team for the whole season and our boys came into the finals on the back of some pretty embarrassing losses! Well done guys, a well deserved premiership cap to each of you.

Last over of the day, Southport Labrador 8/128 chasing our 133. Richo bowling: dot; dot; loopy top edge - 3rd man charges in only to see it land just in front of him and take a mean break past him - 4. 1 to tie 2 to win; Field all up no one more than 15 metres from the bat. dot; dot; last ball a great length up on the stumps, played at the batsman's feet. Batsmen charge the single, stumps intact, game over for Fifths Gold for season 2005. But wait .. a correction

Saturday March 20 Fifths Gold made a valiant team effort they could only manage a tie against Southport Labrador.  Gold Coasty rules dictate that we SHARE THE PREMIERSHIP! Well done boys.  As has been the case all season the game was a true team effort with no stars but tight performances from each member ensured the match of the season.

March 12&13: The ODDS are good

All our odd teams (1sts, 3rds & 5ths Gold) play in a grand final next weekend well done boys!

A pair of 63's (to Mark Doherty and Mark Kelaher) ensured Firsts beat Cudgen to secure their place in the Gabba Cup Grand final against Surfers Paradise next weekend.

Tight, sharp bowling and fielding by Seconds managed to keep Loganholme to just 170 but their bowling was equally sharp and the home ground advantage saw them take the win by dismissing our boys for just 159.

A batting bonanza by Thirds (Led by a 51 from number 7 Craig Evesson and 62 from number 8 Shane Clark) gave them a convincing win over Coomera Hope Island and entry to the grand final next weekend against Mount Tamborine.

Cricket is a team game and that's just what Fifths Gold proved in their match against Broadbeach White. No batsman made more than 20 but 5 scroed over 10. No bowler took more than 3 wickets but 5 bowlers took wickets. The result: a tight win 9/117 to 114 and passage to the

March 5 (&6): Finals at top, upsets at bottom

Troy Newton saved his best till the business end taking 6/52 (helped by safe gloves behind with Jason Lavender taking 4 catches) to help restrict Loganholme to 201 in the Firsts qualifying final at Salk. On day two A magnificent 100 not out by Mark Doherty abley supported by a 53 from Glen Czosnek ensured PBC march into the Semi Final against Cudgen at Kerrydale next weekend.

Bowlers must need big events to get them going because Nick Syrett did even better for Seconds against Southport-Labrador at Les Cave oval. His season (career?) best 8/75 saw the opposition all out for 193. We started day 2 at 1/45 and by though the batting wasn't brilliant it was consistent and we posted 7/200 in 54 overs to secure our place against Loganholme in the semis (Tansey Park) next week.

The staggers have left them, and not a day too soon! In the last game before the finals Thirds convincingly rolled Surfers Paradise (thanks to yet another bowler: Shane Clark with 6/31). Next week we face Coomera Hope Island in a Sat/Sun semi final at Mallawa 2.

Only one score over 10 (33 by A Munro) in Fourth's innings meant they were walloped by lowly 9th placed Mudgeeraba Nerang Blue in spite of valiant bowling by Todd Davis (4/9). The cost of the slip: though we finished 4th on the ladder finals spots were determined by wickets lost not percentage. We finished equal on points with Mudgeeraba Nerang Red but lost 150 wickets to thier 129.

We mentioned it last week as a fear, now sadly it seems to be fact: the old guys in Gold (Fifths) obviously don't have the stuff to last a season. A top order collapse (1/0, 2/0, 3/2, 4/8) ensured a comprehensive loss to 6th place Runaway Bay.  Not an ideal preparation for the semi-final next week against Broadbeach White at St Vincents!  (perhaps the over 40's one dayer last Sunday - see opposite - was not such a good idea!)

The pressure's off for Fifths Maroon - no finals for them - so the last match of the season was a party, and did they ever! 6/192 (largely due to a cracking 88 from Aaron Smith and 41 by Craig Prammer) followed up by tight bowling saw our boys easily dispense with their ladder neighbours Coomera Hope Island. A positive memory to take into next season!

Feb 26: Joy only in the top two

From the brink of humiliation to an outright win, that takes guts and talent something Firsts seem loaded with this season. At 6/62 and 93 runs short of the opposition things looked grim. Determined batting by the lower order, led by Gareth Richardson (53) saw the last the last 4 wickets contribute 119 runs. Then, to top it off, a daring declaration by Mudgeeraba Nerang gave us a target too chaseable and two fine 61's (Mick Foxwell and Mark Doherty n.o.) saw us successfully overpowering them for an outright win.

A 60 run partnership to start the day (Mark Kelaher & Steve Brett) was enough to steady the ship and set Seconds up for a solid win against Mudgeeraba Nerang.

Even Lazarus would not have been good enough to rescue Thirds from the pits in their game against Tamborine Mountain - and he wasn't batting! The bottom order did well to add another 119 runs to take the team total to 148 but the 335 we conceded to the opposition was just too much. The good news: while we were sent back in and had a nasty slide losing 4/80 in 24 overs we managed to hang on and avoid the outright.

Fourths challenged undefeated competition leaders Tamborine Mountain on Sunday and fell short by just 9 runs chasing a good target. Things could have gone very differently as Tamborine Mountain only just hung on to bat out their 35 overs finishing on 9/160. The bad news: we lost. The good news: we are still in the 4 and with a little extra effort could knock them off. A premiership is still possible!

Is the story of the last few seasons repeating itself? Fifths Gold has been nearly unbeatable all season. Now, as we approach the business end the cracks are appearing, another loss. Too many ducks (3) and too many innings that got a start but didn't go on (5) meant that we were never going to reach Surfers' target of 152. Maybe the old knees can't cope with a long season?

In spite of a courageous 46 n.o. from Craig Prammer Fifths Maroon  were not able to post a score too great for Mudgeeraba Nerang Blue. In spite of a tight, consistent bowling effort the boys went down by just 2 wickets. This is the same result as last week. How many near misses is the team going to have this season!

Feb 19: Top three divisions in DEEP trouble!

Firsts started well against Mudgeeraba-Nerang having them at 3/27. Things went south from there with next 7 wickets adding 130. This was still not too bad till PBC experienced a top order collapse late in the day to see us finish at 6/62. It's going to take some determined work next week to save this one.

Seconds are in a good position at home against Mudgeeraba Nerang. Good bowling (especially by Peter Davies with 5/24) saw us have the opposition all out for 135. Having to face 6 overs late in the day we lost 1 wicket and now start next week at 1/1 with a whole day to force a win.

The bye is definitely NOT a good idea - just ask Thirds. Two weeks was enough time to lose form and the boys were hammered by Tamborine Mountain at Mallawa 1. In spite of a brave effort by Jay Seater (5/113) they made 335. In reply PBC is 4/29 facing a mammoth challenge to avoid a loss next week.

Power with the ball and bat by Nathan Bevege (4/28 & 74no)  played a big part in Fourth's overpowering of Mudgeeraba Nerang Red at Mallawa 3.

The 12th batsman (Xtras with the top score of 32) helped Fifths post a winning score of 161 against Tamborine Mountain who could manage only 127 thanks largely to piercing bowling by John Dodd (5/29).

After creeping over the ton, Fifths Maroon  worked hard to defend their 101 and went within 2 wickets of doing it against one of the stronger teams in the division. Unfortunately Southport Labrador just held on to win the match with 8/103.

Feb 12: More wins than losses, a fair day out

The bowlers weren't to be outdone. Firsts opening bowlers kept things tight then Mark Doherty  had a day out with his turners taking 5/38 to rip the heart out of South Tweed's middle order. They eventually fell short by 71 runs giving PBC yet another win.

The lower order came to the rescue for Seconds enabling them to take a first innings win by just 2 runs over South Tweed Colts. In South Tweed's 2nd innings Nick Syrett starred with the ball taking 6/17

Thirds had a bye.

The roller coaster continues for Fourths following up last week's good win with a comprehensive defeat by Southport Labrador. Unfortunately while everyone contributed something no-one was able to come up with a performance to make the match winnable. They have dropped out of the 4 and with just 4 rounds to go will have to put in a top effort to play in the finals.

It was the local derby at Salk oval on Sunday. More like party time at the circus with 16 wickets falling for just over 100 runs. Fifths Maroon padded up first and were back in the pavillion for just 55 runs (thanks in a large part to that old shark Cliff Giles with 5/3). Fifths Gold were more confident, but equally frail, and lost 6 wickets in the run chase. Obviously no-one worked hard enough because at the end of the match both teams turned out in the middle for a Twenty-20 game.

Feb 5: Strong individual performances not enough

Grafting knocks of 63 (Mick Powell) and 65 (Gareth Richardson) enabled Firsts to set a challenging score of 214 for South Tweed Colts to chase next week.

Seconds sent South Tweed Colts in and must have been pleased with the result, having them all out for 138 in just 50 overs. The pleasure quickly turned to pain when PBC found themselves at 4/16. A steadying knock of 24 by Mark Kelaher stopped the rot. Now  Peter Davies (22no) and the tail enders hold the hopes of the team on day two.

Thirds had a bye.

Batting first Fourths had no outstanding scores but 6 partnerships of over 20 was enough to post a winning score against Coomera Hope Island. A victory by 51 runs.

The old guys are back on track! Led by a magnificent 86 from David Young Fifths Gold set a target too far (163) for Coomera Hope Island. They were well on their way to a victory until Greg Harry took 5 wickets in a row for just 17 runs to see the opposition fall short by 43 runs.

Fifths Maroon continue to be so close it's not funny. Despite a brilliant batting performance from Matt Keough in carrying his bat to be 97no at the close of the innings PBC fell short by just 5 runs against Mudgeeraba Nerang White.

Jan29: Four wins (& 1 unkonwn!)

The only thing lacking in Firsts demolition of Queens was an outright. PBC started the day to taking the last 9 Queens wickets for just 77 and then Coach Alex Wilson went on a run-fest in our second innings scoring 111no in 29 overs. The most unusual thing was that the combined score of all 5 of his batting partners was 24, talk about hogging the strike!

A maiden century to Steve Brett (103no) was the highlight of day 2 of Seconds match against Queens. Partnerships of 58 with Garry Stone and 64 with Mark Kelaher saw the team build a winning score of 7/224.

Thirds took only 32 overs to bowl Broadbeach White out for 113 and then overtook their score in just 18 overs, losing 4 wickets on the way. A great all-round effort.

The most unusual things about Fourths match against Runaway Bay were the three run-outs in Runaway Bay's innings and the fact that both teams faced exactly the same number of balls (33.4 overs & 16 wide/no balls). The great thing was that PBC took the first innings points defendinbg their total of 146 by 15 runs.

Despite losing 'Bunter The Rock' for 0 Fifths Gold managed to pass Mudgeeraba Nerang Blue's paltry 71 in 26 overs for the loss of 6 wickets. A purple patch in the field where PBC got 3/0 and another of 4/4 (all taken by Darren Smith) made sure MNB was never going to post a winning target.

Fifths Maroon have not submitted results

Jan22: Not our most dominating day

Despite having 4 batsmen getting over 20 no-one really went on with it so Firsts' match against Queens is finely balanced with PBC making just 189 but picking up a cheap wicket by close of play to have Queens at 1/5.

Mark Kelaher proved what a wiley old player he is picking up 5/36 to help see Queens all out for 212. Seconds had a shakey start to be 2/30 at stumps.

In a scratchy match where neither team could dominate Thirds put together a 3 wicket win over Mudgeeraba Nerang White.

Powerful batting at the top of the order by Todd Davis and at the bottom of the order by Nathan Bevedge saw Fourths score over 7.5 runs an over to post an insurmountable target of 262 for Runaway Bay. Tight bowling and great fielding kept them to just 130.

Fifths Gold paid the price for losing the last 7 wickets for 20 runs against Southport Labrador and lost their second match for the season.

A valiant run chase fell just short with  Fifths Maroon failing by 7 runs to snatch the match away from Broadbeach White.

Jan15: More wins!

A determined effort by Logan Village was not enough to overcome an all round effort in the field by Firsts (special mention to Glen Czosnek with 2 wickets and 3 catches)

Seconds could not capitalise on their strong position from last week and in spite of a 5 wicket haul to Chipper could not create an outright win.

Beattie Rd favoured the bat on Saturday, both Thirds and Coomera Hope Island lost only 6 wickets in their 40 overs. Building on a fantastic 132 run partnership between Alex Shaw and Peter Davies, the PBC bats were 30 runs better and registered another win for the season - and a leap of three places on the ladder.

In spite of a determined lower order effort Fourths could not post a defendable score against Coomera Hope Island who passed them with only 5 wickets down

The  Fifths Gold show continues to roll on with Bunter's bat contributing another 50 (61) and 5 wickets to Shane Dyer the team was unbeatable again. Tamborine Mountain's 132 was passed in the 17th over - an early afternoon for the old guys.

Fifths Maroon were courageous as usual but just can't seem to get it together this season. Wickets fell too regularly and the bowling was tight but couldn't take wickets. Southport Labrador had an easy win.

Jan 8: A dominant performance all round (almost)

Two partnerships (90 by Richardson and Holmes and 140 by Richardson and Bruhn) rescued Firsts from a precarious 5/38 to end the day on 296 against Logan Village.

Seconds already have a first innings win in the bag after dismissing Logan Village for 126 then making 7/154. The situation could have been much worse without a great 82 from Mick Foxwell and: the other 6 wickets down went for 51 including a 28 from Garry Stone!

A very close thing. After conceding 9/146 to Mudgeeraba Nerang Red Thirds also lost 9 wickets in passing their score. A win, just.

Danny Zvatora take a bow! a knock of 130 (teamed with 95 from Todd Davis) set Fourths up for a brilliant win against Surfers. A first wicket stand of 215 must be close to a record (and then 2/294 looks great too!). The demolition was continued by the bowlers, dismissing Surfers for just 21 (Rob Anderson would be pretty pleased with 5/4 off 6 overs).

With authority, that's how Fifths Gold play. It took just 4 wickets to pass Mudgeeraba White's 115 to win. Let's hope they can keep the momentum up till the finals this year (that'd make a nice change!)

A shaky middle order makes life tough - just ask Fifths Maroon. They went down to Surfers Paradise by just 8 runs when they lost 5/18 through the middle. A solid 41 run partnership for the 9th wicket by Slapp & Dwyer was not quite enough to set a winning target.

Dec 18: Powerhouse perfomances in top grades

Coach Alex Morris led the way with a solid 67 to setup a good win against Redland Sharks  for Firsts

'Chipper' took 5/20 for seconds in the destruction of Redlands Sharks, a game won by 9 wickets.

Thirds continued the powerhouse trend building on the platform of a 57 by Jack Boote to score 138 and then dismissing Mudgeeraba Nerang Blue for only 82.

There was also a powerhouse performance in Fourths, unfortunately it was for the opposition! PBC could only manage 62 in chasing Midgeeraba Nerang Blue's 177. THe most interesting thing about the match was that we lost 3 wickets on 40 and then 4 on 43!

The 'seniors' showed they still have power with Fifths Gold dismissing Helensvale for 66 and reaching that score with the loss of only one wicket.

In spite of a defiant opening 58 by Luke Chilcott Fifths Maroon were just beaten by 1 wicket by Tamborine Mountain with just two overs to go.

Dec 11:

All matches cancelled due to bad weather

Dec 4: 5 out of 6 ain't bad!

Troy Newton blitzed Broadbeach taking 6 wickets to see them all out at 141 and a first innings win to Firsts.

Seconds knew they basically only had to turn up to finish the thrashing of Broadbeach, and they did. It took just over an hour to clean up their tail (another 2 wickets to Jai Simmons to give him a 7'fer) and  then score the 19 runs to seal the outright. Special mention to Todd Rush for the 5 catches behind the stumps.

The trend continued at Dux Oval where a good all round performance by Thirds gave them a strong first win against Queens. Special mention of Matt Freeman, the 'kid' in the team who took 2/1 in one over.

Steve Newton in the wickets (it's a family thing - see firsts). 5/17 by Steve was enough to crack  Mudgeeraba Nerang Red's batting for a great win to Fourths.

The old guys just keep doing it! Fifths Gold claimed Runaway Bay's scalp with great contributions from Bill Freeman (third 50 in a row!) & Peter Hack with the bat and Cliff Giles (4 wickets in a row to demolish the middle order). Who said old blokes can't keep it up!

It must have been panic! 5 consecutive run outs batting first (is that a record?) caused Fifths Maroon to post a score just too gettable for Coomera Hope Island, and get it they did - despite 3 catches to Matt Knightsmith.

Nov 27: Back to strength!

3 quick wickets at 34,35 & 35 saw firsts a little shaky but a solid 61 by P Bruhn batting at number 8 steady the ship and put them team in a good position against Robina.

Tight, pressure bowling saw Seconds dismiss Robina for 106. In 38 overs PBC wiped out that score, and then themselves out to be all out for 158. The experience must have been too much for the Robina lads because they lost the first 5 wickets of their second innings wickets for 15 runs in seven overs!

A hiccup in the middle order (3 wickets for 5 runs) kept Thirds to just 138. Tight bowling  has kept them in the match, having Queens 7/112 at stumps but it will be a close thing next week.

Fourths posted a good score of 239 (thanks largely to 2 partnerships (Todd  Davis & Alex Shaw - 50, Todd Davis & Jai Wilkinson - 53) then  scraped home by 3 runs to win against Southport Labrador.

A 97 run opening partnership by Freeman and  Harry on the baby ground at Bruce Small set the 208 run score for 5ths Gold. A great effort from the bowlers saw Surfers Paradise all out for 140 and another win to the old boys.

Despite being helped by 20 extras, 5ths Maroon was never going to reach Mudgeeraba Nerang Blue's score of 8/183, wickets just fell too regularly. They finished 42 runs short and their yo-yo season continues.

Nov 20: Not really our day

Mick Powell turned bowling into a new weapon taking a 'fivefer' to help shut down Terranora for 133 and seal a win for Firsts

Seconds went from a bad batting performance to a mediocre bowling performance to be convincingly beaten by Terranora.

Despite some very sharp bowling (congrats to Jay Seater on his first 'fivefer' for the club) Thirds couldn't hold on, being beaten by four runs.

Fourths couldn't put it togther with either bat or ball and went down to Coomera Hope Island.

5ths Gold - the only other bright spark this week. Billy's finally got his batting eye back in (66) and another 'fivefer' for the week, this time to S Dyer, created an easy win over Tamborine.

Last week's effort was too much for 5ths Maroon! There was plenty of time for rest though when there innings ended early against Southport Labrador, just 77 runs short.

Nov 14: A Mixed bag

A ton to Cozzie and 50's to Richo & Simmo have put Firsts into a strong position at the close of day one in the game against Terranora at Salk.

Its going to take pretty sharp bowling by the Seconds next week to prevent Terranora (5/92) overtaking the PBC low first innings of 109, but stranger things have happened (just look at last round!)

Thirds are only chasing 99 by Runaway Bay but its a little risky at 4/61. Heads down boys!

Fourths successfully defended their reasonable score (8/167) to gain a win against Runaway Bay

5ths Gold v 5ths Maroon First blood to the young fellas in the PBC Derby!

7 Nov - It was WET, WET, WET

Some almost certain outrights floated down drains on Saturday. Not one match was played to a conclusion. Fortunately the strong play by 1sts - 3rdds on day one of this round meant that all three divisions recorded a win for the round.

4ths: Drew, didn't bowl, washed  out

5ths Gold: Drew, didn't bowl, washed  out

5ths Maroon: Drew, didn't bat, washed  out

Oct 30 A great day on the park

Firsts, seconds and Thirds are all really well placed in their 2 day games, with 2nds and 3rds in a great position for outrights. 2nds got Murwillumbah all out for 21 and are 9/141 in reply! (welcome back Chipper!!) Thirds had Southport/Labrador for 64 and are 271 in reply! (It seems the promotion from 5ths to 3rds has suited one Ben McCombie!!)

4ths: had a good  win

5ths Gold: 6 wickets to knock of the 99 required to down Mudgeeraba/Nerang

5ths Maroon: A great win against Helensvale
